A room that is cleared and ready when the installers arrive means the job runs to schedule, the result looks better, and you are not scrambling on the morning of installation.

Step 1: Empty the Space Completely
On installation day, the area where your new wardrobe will be installed needs to be completely clear. This means:
• Remove all furniture from the room, or at minimum push it to the opposite wall and cover it with dust sheets
• Empty any existing wardrobes or storage units that will be removed as part of the installation
• Remove rugs and floor coverings from the immediate installation area
• Clear items from the top of any existing wardrobes or furniture that might be affected by the work
For bedroom installations, the bed can often remain in the room if it can be moved to the centre or opposite wall, but check with your installer in advance if space is tight.
Step 2: Clear the Access Path
Wardrobe panels and components need to be carried from the delivery vehicle into your home and up to the installation room. A clear, unobstructed path from the front door (or garage) to the room saves time and prevents accidental damage to your home and the components.
• Move hallway furniture, coat racks, shoes, and any items that narrow the access path
• Roll up hallway rugs to prevent tripping and damage during component movement
• If the installation is on an upper floor, confirm that the staircase is clear and that no components are too large for the stairwell
Step 3: Check the Walls
New built-in wardrobes are typically fixed to walls. The condition of your walls affects the installation:
• Patching: if your walls have significant holes, crumbling plaster, or areas of delaminating paint, have these repaired before installation day. Wardrobe panels fixed to unstable wall surfaces may not hold correctly
• Wall type: if the installation involves any walls that are not standard plasterboard or brick (timber framing, compressed fibre cement, tiled surfaces), let the Impressive Wardrobes team know in advance so they can prepare the right fixings
• Post-installation painting: if you plan to repaint the room after installation, painting the walls before the installation and then touching up any marks after the installation is installed is the most practical approach, rather than trying to paint cleanly around an installed wardrobe
Step 4: Confirm Electrical and Plumbing Locations
Before installation day, confirm with the Impressive Wardrobes team whether any electrical outlets, light switches, or plumbing is in or near the installation area. Existing power points in or near the installation area can usually be accommodated in the wardrobe design, but this needs to be known during the design phase, not on installation day.
If integrated lighting is part of your wardrobe design, confirm whether any electrical work is required before the installation team arrives. Additional electrical work is typically arranged separately with a licensed electrician.
Step 5: Have Someone Home and Available
Built-in wardrobe installation is a detailed task that benefits from having the homeowner present. While our installation teams are experienced and professional, questions arise about the exact positioning of specific elements, door swing direction, shelf height preferences, and other decisions that you should be there to answer rather than having to revisit later.
